AHMEDABAD: Three British citizens of Indian origin filed a writ petition in a Himmatnagar court against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, state Home Minister and twelve others seeking monetary compensation for those who died during the post-Godhra riots.

The petition has been filed by Imran Mohammed, an United Kingdom citizen, and relatives of two other UK citizens in a local court in Sabarkantha district seeking a total of Rs 22.17 crore as compenstation from the Gujarat Government.

Imran Mohammed had sustained injuries during the Gujarat riots in 2002, while the two other UK citizens had been killed in the riots.

The relatives of the two victims had filed the petition on their behalf.

The court on Friday admitted the petition and the hearing on the matter will begin from May 6.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Health Minister and spokesperson I K Jadeja told UNI that the Government was waiting for the case details before deciding its course of actions.
