Car aficionados wait each year for the extraordinary collection being displayed in full finery with these rare and classic cars known as Vintage Wheels in Jaipur each year. This yearly event is marked this time with the spring festival in the city as well. While most of the vehicles are driven by the former rulers of princely states, army generals, and celebrities there were more than thirty new entrants this years from each corner of the country making this an extravaganza of antique cars.
Judging from all these entries India has been on the forefront of the lavish and polished car market from the times of Maharajas. The simple visit to the any classy used car show room can open your eyes to the style attitude, and power that vintage wheels used to bring. You might think that India is living in SUV; think again there is a select breed who drives in the vintage wheels with all their glory as well. One such place is Antique India Show held at Jaipur Polo stadium.
Entering to the Antique car show is not easy affair; there is strict process of authentication of each vehicle making this quite similar to any other dog or beauty pageant. Eccentricities and uniqueness is all part of acquiring these master pieces. Not every car can attain the status of these classics and some who try to emulate often get snide looks from the crowds in here.
Maharaja Manvendra Singh of Barwani is one of the patrons and an avid restorer of these vehicles. According to him only few cars can be restored to full glory today. With more than 6,000 vintage cars applying for participation in here this time, one can easily understand that there are some people who are unable to participate. While the attitude of the event is anything but elitist, most of the attending here tend to carry some royal, military or political connections.
This thriving event has many enduring celebrities from all over India, Middle East and Europe as well that participate in here religiously for years. Many seniors including Louis Ferula, the former director of Cartier want to create the connection between heritage and Cartier. Similarly Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur was here with his famous barricade of Limousines.
